Exorcism through art...... Tyson Johnston is a mixed media artist living in the Bay Area. For him, painting is a release of inner demons, a transfer of energy. He makes art because he has to.
"Intuition generally dictates my painting process, giving rise to an unconscious projection of emotion to canvas. I don't limit myself in terms of mediums or their application to surface. House paint, watercolor, acrylic, gold leaf, spray paint, and blood are some of the tools of my trade. "
"I prefer to work on weathered decaying wood, but I will paint upon any surface available to me. I often paint images retrieved from rapid eye movement visions. Common themes include: fear of impending doom, social anxiety, loss of control, and the hidden danger of beauty. Women and creepy creatures can usually be found in my art. Frequently, there is no order or plan with my non-representational work. I rely on motion, energy, and textural chaos to convey my message. I believe that without the threat of failure or destruction, nothing can be gained from the journey. Instinct controls my hands."
